Frequently Asked Questions

What are the entry requirements for enrolment?

Whilst the majority of our students have completed the HSC, successful completion of Year 10 or equivalent is acceptable for enrolment. We believe that the ability to complete our course is based not on age but on the individual's application and ability - at Bedford we make every effort to assist our students to achieve their personal best results. No UAI score is required for enrolment. The most important entry prerequisite is a desire to succeed and a willingness to learn.

The Statement of Attainment lists the course units in which you demonstrated competence.

Will I get credits for work I have already done or already know?

A Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy is in place which allows students to apply for credit for subjects already undertaken or skills already attained. The Deputy Principal and/or the Course Coordinator assess all RPL Applications and students must be able to satisfy the performance criteria for the unit for which exemption is being sought. The College recognises all AQF qualifications and Statements of Attainment awarded by other Registered Training Organisations.

What should I wear to College?

Business Students
At Bedford we train students to work in the business sector so it makes sense to dress appropriately for a corporate business environment whilst you're here. This includes skirts, jackets, and tailored pants for females and business trousers and collared shirts for males (tie is not mandatory). Joggers, denim, crop tops, baseball caps are not allowed. However, like most large organisations today, we have dedicated 'Mufti Days' when casual dress may be worn.

Child Care Students
Most Child Care Centres today require their staff to wear appropriate uniform and this is also what happens at College. Students wear a blue polo shirt (supplied at College), black pants and closed-in shoes.

Will I have additional work to do at home?

Yes - you will need to do some assignments and additional study at home although we do try to schedule your work so that you are not issued with multiple assignments at one time. The average students should spend approximately six to eight hours per week on homework - but remember that we have our Optional Study Period each day when students may work on homework tasks whilst at College.

Will I undertake practical work placement during the Course?

Yes - Business Students undertake thirty-five hours (one week) of practical work placement at the end of Term 3 which is a mandatory part of the course. We encourage students to undertake this placement in large firms where there is a diverse range of opportunities, in-house training is offered, and where opportunities for future advancement exist. Whilst students are responsible for arranging their own work placement, the College is able to assist in placing some students with our industry partners. It is quite common for the one-week work placement to lead to a permanent job offer.

Child Care Students undertake practical work placement every Friday after the first four weeks of College and then 2 x 2 week practicum placements - one during term 2 and again during Term 3. Students also undertake 20 hours training in an OOSH (Out of School Hours) Centre during Term 4.
