Course Description and Career Opportunities

Bedford College offers nationally recognised courses in Early Childhood Education, School Age Education and Care, and School Based Education Support. For almost two decades, these courses have been leading students to real employment outcomes. The qualifications offered at Bedford are taught by industry-experienced teachers who each have their own specialisation.

These specialisations broaden the learning experience for students and open their minds to new possibilities. Bedford is, indeed, respected as one of Australia’s leading providers of training in Early Childhood Education, School Age Education and Care, and School Based Education Support.

Possible career opportunities include full-time work in roles such as Early Childhood Educator, Childcare Assistant, Family Day Care Educator, Out of School Hours (OOSH) Assistant, Special Learning Support Officer (SLSO), Teacher’s Aide, Tutor, Au Pair, Children’s Services Coordinator, Centre Director, and other roles where training is required.

Industry Partnerships

These include early learning centres, family day care and vacation care providers, out-of-school-hours care settings, and anywhere where trained professionals are needed for the care of children. Instead of advertising the roles online, these businesses and organisations often come to the College first to see if any students might be suitable. This has led to a high graduate employment success rate at Bedford.

Entry Requirements for Domestic Students

University Pathways

VET STUDENT LOANS (VSL)

Bedford College is an approved VET Student Loans (VSL) provider for Diploma level qualifications. VSL is for domestic students only, and is not available for international students.

VET Student Loans will not be approved for students who do not meet eligibility requirements. VET Student Loans give rise to a VESTL debt that continues to be a debt due to the Commonwealth until it is repaid.

PRACTICUM

Students attend practicum 1 day per week with additional practicum blocks.

Certificate III students have a minimum of 160 mandatory practicum placement hours. Diploma students have a minimum of 280 mandatory practicum placement hours.

Early Childhood Education and Care students will undertake their practicum placements in a registered Child Care Centre.

School Age Education and Care students will undertake their practicum placements at an Out of School Hours Care or Vacation Care environment.

Please Note: A Working with Children Check is a prerequisite for undertaking practicum placement.
