Graduate Employment Program

Whilst no organisation can absolutely guarantee that every student will get a job at the end of the course, it’s true to say that Bedford Graduates have traditionally achieved unsurpassed employment success on completion of their course.

At Bedford we liaise with industry and we maintain a network of organisations that regularly choose Bedford Graduates to fill positions in their company – many of these organisations come back to us for our Graduates year after year.

Bedford College has an excellent reputation and is highly regarded by employers – which means that Bedford Graduates are in demand.

Business and Management Graduates

Our industry contacts include some of the largest law firms in Sydney – along with many other legal firms – banking organisations, insurance companies, accountants, hospitality industries, medical practitioners, the media, computer companies and many other industries both large and small. Many organisations make Bedford College their first choice for the recruitment of college graduates.

Some of the largest firms in Sydney visit Bedford College every year in order to recruit our graduates. (King & Wood, Malleson, (the largest law firm in Australasia) and many other top tier firms choose Bedford Graduates when seeking new staff.

Child Care Graduates

Employment opportunities for qualified childcare workers are endless. Child Care Graduates can go straight into full-time work on completion of their studies and many are offered employment whilst undertaking the practicum component of their Bedford course. This of course means that by the time you graduate, you will already have a job to go to.

Other graduates will choose to go onto further study at university. And some students will go into full-time work and undertake part-time university. The choice is yours.

Community Services Graduates

Job roles and titles for graduates of this course vary across different industry sectors – there are more that 50 possible employment opportunities including:

• Youth services worker
• Welfare worker
• Community services officer
• Support officer
• Client services manager
• Community development officer
• Service manager
• Community educator
• Family counsellor
• Social worker
• Children’s services worker
And many others

Our Graduate Employment Program is available to every Bedford student (and ex-student) and has proven to be a very successful method of employment placement. Bedford Graduates have excellent job prospects and the vast majority of jobs come about as a direct result of Bedford’s employer contacts.

The College maintains a network of employers who contact us when a position becomes available in their organisation and once received, job vacancies are entered into our Employment Register.

It’s the job of our Student Services Officer to liaise with students to find suitable candidates. These candidates then prepare an application letter which is forwarded – along with their résumé – to the employer, and an interview is arranged.

Bedford students are well prepared for the interview process with the aid of the following training:

  • Employer expectations (what employers are looking for)
  • successful interview techniques
  • appropriate questions and answers
  • interviewee behaviour (including use of appropriate body language)
  • how to make a good first impression
  • interview role playing
  • writing solicited and unsolicited job application letters
  • résumé preparation (creating a winning résumé)

(See the Graduate Testimonials for more information).
